This workshop guides you through all the steps of creating a photographic book, from selecting images to printing and handmade binding.

Why create a photo book?

The book is an essential form in photography:

• it allows you to tell a story
• structure a series
• give materiality to your work
• share your universe in a way other than on screen

Creating a book means thinking in sequence, in rhythm, in narration.

• Build a coherent sequence of images
• Think about rhythm, pauses, transitions
• Design a simple and effective layout without complex software
• Prepare your images for printing
• Understand papers, finishes, contrasts
• Print your images independently
• Create ahandmade binding (Japanese and sewn)

🗓️ Programme

Day 1 – Design and structure

• Introduction to the photographic book (references & forms)
• Selection and editing of images
• Building the narrative
• Creating a simple mock-up (without InDesign)
• First print tests

Day 2 – Print and make

• Adjusting the mock-up
• Printing images (Epson printers)
• Choosing paper and managing outputs

• Introduction to bookbinding:

  • Japanese binding
  • Sewn binding
• Assembling your mock-up
•
